Every pet leaves paw prints on our hearts, but some leave a legacy that continues long after the daily routines have changed.
For our family, that dog is Mavie.
Like many Labradors, Mavie loved life. Whether it was a trip to the beach, a walk with the family, or simply being close to the people he loved, he approached every day with enthusiasm, loyalty and a gentle spirit.
For years, we rarely thought about the concept of a “senior pet.” Mavie was simply Mavie — our companion, our friend, and an important member of the family.
But as the years passed, we began to notice small changes.
Nothing dramatic at first.
A little slower getting up.
A little less eager to jump.
A little more time spent resting after activities he once completed effortlessly.
Like many pet owners, we realised that growing older is a journey we take alongside our pets.
This article is a tribute to Mavie and to the lessons he taught us about caring for senior dogs with patience, understanding and love.
